It’s Wedding Wednesday again and what do we have here? It’s a Bride & Maid-of-Honor shoot in collaboration with Jessica Millete of Harmony in Happenstance and inspired by my long time obsession with black wedding dresses and dark florals.
STYLED SHOOT CONCEPT
Relationships. Hold onto that word.
This styled shoot celebrates the vital relationship between a bride and her maid-of-honor . Your maid-of-honor typically knows it all, from the crushes to the heart-breaks and the near-relationships so honestly, one rushed shot of both of you on your wedding day is not enough to thank her for the finished tissue boxes. As such, the day you get married is not simply the day of your life, but the day of your lives because hopefully after this day, your BFF / Maid-of-Honor won’t have to listen to your heart-break stories all over again. Lol!
On the day of my last styled shoot with Erika Layne, I mentioned in passing that I was going to do a black wedding styled shoot next. The universe agreed. As things were coming together, I knew that finding a florist who would work with my budget was going to be tricky, so I ordered some artificial flowers which I self-assembled on the day of. I chose dark rich tones for the bouquets to match with the color of the current fall foliage and as you will see in the pictures, the flowers blended in effortlessly with our surroundings. Overall, dark florals are an incredibly rich palette for the fall season and I am thoroughly obsessed with them. Black bridal dresses need to become more of a thing and we shared some black wedding dress inspiration earlier this year. That post got a lot of buzz. I hope the online buzz translates to more brides embracing black wedding dresses for themselves and their bridesmaids.
Let’s start a revolution! 🙂
HOW DID WE ALL MEET?
On the 2016 International Day of the Girl event, I attended an event hosted by Memunatu in D.C at the Google office. If you’ve been reading my blog, you might recall this post I did on Memunatu when I served as their Campaign Manager for the initial magazine launch.
During the networking bit at the end of the Empowering Innovation event, I asked Jessica “So what do you do?” As soon as she said “I’m a wedding photographer”, I squealed! She had been looking to do a styled shoot since she only shoots real life weddings and I had been looking to do another wedding styled shoot, to broaden my portfolio and connect to more clients. See my previous Styled Shoot here.
Within three weeks of our meeting, this shoot happened. Our delightful models, Senya and Jasmine are ladies I had met and worked with in the past. Senya is one of the founders of Bright Foundation and in 2014, they had invited me to be a vendor and gift-bag sponsor at their event. See the post here. Jasmine was one of the models who helped out with the Yetunde Sarumi Spring 2016 Collection photoshoot you’ll see in my Portfolio here.
It’s all about relationships, folks!
Celebrate your Maid-of-Honor! (or plan to)
